PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON ISLE OF MAN STEAM PACKET COMPANY NORTHERN IRISH SERVICES ENDS

4/9/2017

A public consultation on the operation of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s Northern Irish services has ended.

The three-week survey was launched on 14th August to gather public views as the Steam Packet Company considers operating services to and from the Port of Larne in Northern Ireland to help boost visitor and other traffic.

The ferry company currently operates into Albert Quay, Belfast, but is investigating the merits of relocating to Larne, which could provide a service for heavier vehicles such as vans, motorhomes, coaches and freight that cannot be accommodated through Belfast.

A professional research company was engaged to conduct the online survey, which was open to all and promoted through the Steam Packet Company’s website and social media channels as well as being shared directly with some customers who have used the Douglas-Belfast route.

The survey closed on Monday 4th September, with more than 3,000 responses received.

Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: ‘As part of our ongoing review of routes to ensure the best passenger experience possible is offered, we identified that Larne could deliver an enhanced service compared with the Belfast facilities. However, it was important to us to find out what our passengers think, and I’d like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the online survey.

‘The survey has had a strong response and the research company is now working through the information and will provide us with a detailed report in the coming weeks. That report will be central to our final decision.’
